The USA–Turkey diplomatic conflict: what the consequences might be

New developments in the world inevitably have an effect on the popularity of investment programs. Thus, in the wake of recent events, experts have predicted a rise in emigration out of Turkey.

Why emigration out of Turkey has risen

In early October 2017, a diplomatic squabble broke out between Turkey and the United States of America. The reasons for this conflict are indirectly related to the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016, but the consequences for ordinary people are rather mundane and unpleasant: the USA and Turkey have suspended the issuing of visas to citizens of each others’ countries. It is much more alluring for Turks to travel to the USA than for Americans to travel to Turkey. The USA is, after all, one of the world’s key destinations in terms of quality of life, economic and investment attractiveness, the development of tourism, and so forth. But that’s not all there is to it.

Possible consequences of the diplomatic spat

Many states in the world are oriented towards the USA as a strategic and economic partner. These countries include Canada, the UK, and most European countries. Often decisions made by the United States on the diplomatic front are taken up also by many other countries. One can see examples of this in the sanctions against Russia and the restrictive measures taken with regard to Iran, North Korea, and various other countries. Based on this tendency, experts are predicting that soon residents of Turkey will start having problems visiting other countries than just the USA. One should note that diplomatic and visa limitations affect not only native-born Turks, but also those who received citizenship there after immigrating to the country or who have become residents. The list of countries that Turkish citizens and temporary-residency holders can visit under a simplified regime, may shrink greatly.

Alternative options, valid for 2017

Of course, diplomatic quarrels shouldn’t dissuade anyone who is planning their future, even if such diplomatic conflicts concern large and important countries like the USA. That is why, analysts naturally assume, in the near future the immigration and residency programs offered by Malta, Cyprus and the Caribbean countries will become even more popular. These are countries with promising economies, comfortable climates, a high standard of living, and a stable environment. From a need for additional measures to realize their economic potential, these countries aim to attract foreigners by offering advantageous investment programs, which bring their participants citizenship or permanent or temporary residency. It must be added that – unlike “disgraced” Turkey – the UK, EU, and Caribbean region maintain stable relations with the United States and other developed countries worldwide. Immigration and residency programs give their participants the right to travel visa-free or under a simplified procedure to dozens and hundreds of countries. As a result, in 2017 (and most likely in the years to come), new citizens and residents of these countries will have no problems traveling around the world.
